Abstract: What does it truly mean to be an Undecided (Exploring) student and how can Advisers leverage new competencies to foster community to ensure they don't feel alone in their journey? As the student experience evolves, it is essential to rebuild support for the 'Exploring' student population. At Oakland University's First Year Advising Center, we launched a pilot program in 2023 to enhance advising strategies for Exploring students. By partnering with the Career and Life Design Center, we developed new tools and resources for tracking and advising these students. Our initiative emphasized cross-departmental collaboration, resulting in improved processes and Adviser training. This session will explore how integrating student development theories shaped our approach, fostering a culture that values the Exploring experience. Attendees will gain insights into creating effective advising interventions that enhance student success and retention.
