Title: Fire Hose to Water Fountain: Working Together to Reduce the Pressure of New Student Orientation
Lead Presenter: Elizabeth McKinley
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm
Room: 205, DECC
Abstract: Have you ever thought that advising at orientation was like drinking from a fire hose? Join us to learn how the advising leads from a large, 4-year public university used the changes brought on by the pandemic to develop a new, collaborative advising strategy for New Student Orientation that turned down the pressure for students and advisors alike. Attendees will learn how six different academic colleges came together to create a unified process through the creation of digital materials, webpages, videos, a standard appointment process, the use of technology, and more. Feedback from students and advisors as well as ideas for taking these processes into the 'new normal' will be shared.
