Title: How Purpose & Belonging Reframe the Conversation
Lead Presenter: Gian Pierotti
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: 262, DECC
Abstract: How can we move students in an intentional direction that focuses on purpose and belonging? How does purpose and belonging impact retention? Cultivating purpose helps students understand what matters to them and to head in the right direction without knowing where they are going. This presentation seeks to reimagine what advising appointments and classroom communities look like when we incorporate purpose and belonging work. Learn how two academic advisors at a large, urban research university implemented a 1 credit course around purpose work. You will leave this presentation with a better understanding of the research behind purpose and belonging and how to begin implementing it right now on both small and large scales including a resource: 'Start Today: 10 Conversation Starters to Cultivate Purpose & Belonging'.
