Title: Redesigning Academic Notice: A Simulation of Barriers and Destigmatization
Lead Presenter: Alison Hodges
Date: October 29, 2025    Time: 8:45 am - 9:45 am
Room: Julius 17-19, Pool Level
Abstract: This interactive session explores the impact of academic alert notices and barriers that prevent students from responding effectively. Participants engage in a simulation where groups receive different types of academic notifications. Both groups face common obstacles, such as missed emails, miscommunication, and incorrect submissions, that delay or prevent their ability to respond until critical deadlines pass. Through this simulation exercise, attendees experience firsthand the challenges students face in navigating academic notices. The session encourages self-reflection and group discussion, highlighting different intervention models. Participants will also learn strategies to improve communication, reduce stigma, implement proactive advising approaches and explore examples of interventions that support a student's return to 'Good Academic Standing.'
