Abstract:
|
This training addresses the unsustainable 'jack of all trades' expectation placed on academic advisors at HBCUs. It argues for a reframed scope emphasizing specialized expertise and robust collaboration with on- and off-campus support services to foster student success.
Participants will explore the unique HBCU environment and learn strategies for a more focused and culturally responsive advising model.
Key areas include defining a clear advisor scope within the HBCU context, strategically utilizing culturally relevant resources, building collaborative partnerships ('HBCU Village'), empowering students for self-navigation, and promoting advisor well-being through role clarity.
This interactive training equips participants with practical tools to redefine advising on their campuses, moving towards a collaborative and culturally responsive approach that enhances both student and advisor well-being within the distinct HBCU setting. This training can also be applicable to all advisors. |
