Session #: 260(LEC)
Title: Working Together: Peer Advisors Supporting the Exploration Process
Lead Presenter: Jared Meitler
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Room: 200, DECC
Abstract: 'More with less' is a catch phrase on campus as higher education faces historically low financial support from the state and federal government. Because of this, units must continue to seek strategic ways to support student success with fewer full time staff. Participants will hear how a four year institution has supported the major and career exploration needs of students with a team of highly motivated peer advisers for the last twenty years. Career services staff, exploratory advisers, and individuals that lead peer advising programs, can find useful information in this session that will discuss both best practices and challenges. Theories and resources utilized by peer advisers, as well as information about recruitment, selection, training, and supervision will be shared.
