Abstract: A Research Analysis on the Advising Profession in the US
Retention, Evaluate and Assess, Professional Philosophy. These are all terms that as advisors, we hear every day in the work place. We are given the burden to retain the students, and figure out how we can evaluate ourselves and our progress with out students, when many times, our leadership does not understand the entirety of what we do as a unit. My hope in this paper, is to review advising professionals about their goals and their backgrounds and how they see advising as a profession in the United States. With this outreach, I hope to understand what would fit best for an all encompassing advising model where the student can start and end with the same advisor, regardless of major, academic standing, or any type of typical and artificial designation that a university can put on a student. My end goal is a concept of an advising center on all campuses in the United States. A one-stop location for students to come to when they need assistance of any kind, not just for registration.
