Title: Clarity Through Curiosity
Lead Presenter: Sean Dwyer
Date: October 07, 2021    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: Exhibit Hall A
Abstract: Do all departments in your college work well together? As an advisor, do you sometimes find yourself stuck between conflicting policies? Do you find it difficult dealing with college curmudgeons, recalcitrant departments, and faculty with 'strong' personalities? Want to feel empowered to affect change, improve communication, and create cohesive, efficient relationships across campus? Then this is your session!
Different operating processes and historical traditions can often lead to inefficient policies requiring students to jump through hoops. As advisors, we often find ourselves caught in the middle between opposing stakeholders, helpless to assist our students. In this presentation, we will discuss how YOU can develop strategies to improve inefficiencies and interdepartmental relationships. By approaching misunderstanding and miscommunication with curiosity, you, too, can teach your institution how to get along!
