Abstract:
|
Graduate student advisors hold a variety of roles, including faculty advisors, research mentors, administrative support staff, professional academic advisors, and dedicated success coaches. Regardless of the model used to deliver academic advising, graduate students require a strong network of support. This presentation will explore graduate advising competencies as outlined in the literature, while also sharing insights from our graduate student panel. The panelists will reflect on their advising experiences, highlighting not only the different roles of those who provide support but also how advisors embody the seven NACADA core values: caring, commitment, empowerment, inclusivity, integrity, professionalism, and respect. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with both the presenters who advise master's and doctoral students and the panelists. |
