Title: That's Tomorrow's Problem: Battling Perfectionism & Procrastination
Have an advisee that always waits till the last hour to register? Or perhaps a co-worker who 'thrives under pressure' yet rarely submits their work on time? Habitual procrastinators tend to battle reputations as lazy, disinterested, unorganized, and unmotivated. However, many 'do-it-laters' are battling anxiety, crippling perfectionism, and a vulnerability connected to possible criticism or perceptions of failure. In this session, we will discuss a variety of underlying issues that can lead to procrastination, as well as review student development theories connected to motivation and resiliency. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of habitual procrastinators, a list of resources and texts, plus positive tools for focused encouragement that can be used personally and with students! |
