Title: From Sunny FLA to the Snowy Midwest: Weathering Faulty Academic Decision Factors
Lead Presenter: Jaimie Engle
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Room: Jr. Ballroom C, DECC
Abstract: College students consider many factors when making decisions. As academic advisors, it is not our job to say 'Yes,' or 'No' when it comes to students' academic choices. We're trained to lay out the facts in order to educate students as they consider decisions, and to challenge them to reflect on important factors in that decision making process. However, we should be taking this one step further by helping them understand which decision factors would be most helpful for their choices.

The panelists will review how to transition conversations into valuable discussions of useful decision factors versus flawed decision factors. Topics covered will include the use of Rate My Professor, external course rating tools like Coursicle, institutional ratings for courses and professors, how to consider advice from peers, and much more.
