Doing More with Less: Using Noncognitive Skills Assessment to Facilitate Holistic Advising
While the promises of a holistic approach to advising are many, so, too, are the challenges. Despite substantial evidence supporting the power of holistic advising practices to improve student success outcomes, few institutions provide advising support that adheres to its principles (i.e., advising that is sustained, strategic, integrated, proactive, and personalized). One of the most commonly cited barriers to holistic advising is lack of time/resources. In this session, presenters will share a practical tool to help advisors provide targeted, proactive, personalized support when time/resources are limited: noncognitive skills assessment. Additionally, using examples from a number of diverse institutions, the presenters will share practical tips for effectively integrating noncognitive skills assessment into an institution's advising system. |
