Title: Preventing Advisor Burnout: Strategies for Advisors, Supervisors, and Decision-Makers
Lead Presenter: Jacob Rudy
Date: October 07, 2021    Time: 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm
Room: 230/231, DECC
Abstract: What can advising units, advising supervisors, and newly hired advisors all do to prevent an advisor's burnout? In this session we will review practices and policies that advising units can put in place to better support newly hired advisors. We will also discuss strategies that newly hired staff can put in place to support their own long-term engagement and growth as advisors. Participants will take part in a lively discussion that draws on individual experience, emerging practices in advising and other helping professions, and interdisciplinary research on what engages and sustains direct service employees. Participants from any level of advising/decision-making are invited to attend to listen, share, and reflect on how to better support direct service academic advisors.
