Abstract: 'That's how we've always done it!' is a running joke in higher education. What if as a community we challenge the status quo and use an organizational psychologist's approach to advising? In author, and Wharton Organizational Psychologist, Adam Grant's latest book, Think Again: the Power of Knowing What You Don't Know, he challenges readers to re-think commonly held beliefs. In this session, the presenter will visit key principles from Grant's work that is applicable to advising including the positives of imposter system, psychological safety in the workplace, and how to win over our foes. To move forward and create change we must rethink our current beliefs. Participants will walk away with ideas on how to challenge barriers for students and advisors alike.
