Abstract:
|
Parenting styles and parenting involvement during elementary and high school years have been shown to affect the overall academic performances of college students. Historically, parental involvement has decreased as young adults transition to college; however, academic advisors and administrators are reporting more contact with parents than in previous years. The history of academic advising, expectations of advising, and research on parental involvement in higher education will be reviewed during the session. Using a sample of college students and their parents, the researcher will examine the evolution of parenting styles and parenting involvement and its impact on students' expectations of academic advisors. Parental expectations of academic advising will be examined as well. |
