Abstract:
|
Capitalizing on Faculty-Advising Partnerships to Improve Female Student Experiences in Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity has become our institution's fastest growing major since its launch in 2015. The growth in our enrollment is reflective of the field of cybersecurity overall, which has a significant national workforce shortage. While our major continues to grow, we have noticed that our undergraduate female student enrollment remains at a 25%-75% female-to-male ratio. Advisors in the cybersecurity program have faced the challenges of rapid growth and insufficient representation of women in the field by building strong faculty-advisor partnerships. These partnerships have helped us start several initiatives prioritizing female student success and inclusion in the field. Presenters will review current and planned initiatives, identify challenges based on focus group and survey data results, and discuss partnership-building efforts with teaching faculty in addressing these challenges. |
