Abstract: From Campus to Camp: Creating an Overnight Retreat For Exploratory Students
How can advisors develop a high-impact experience for students to engage in self-exploration and interpersonal connection in an environment outside of campus? This presentation reimagines exploratory conversations off-campus and their impact on major declaration and student retention. Learn how three advisors at a large urban research university developed an overnight retreat for undeclared students to: 1)Explore their personal goals, 2)Connect within a group of students navigating major exploration, and 3)Plan purposeful experiences in college and beyond. You will leave this presentation with guiding data, resources for planning and implementation, a robust two-day itinerary template, and who to call when you get locked out of your bunk. Begin implementing your own advisor-led retreat right now on a small or large scale.
