Abstract:
|
Online education in the United States emerged in the 1980s and has continued to grow, as many traditional higher education institutions now offer fully online degrees. There are also completely online universities that cater to students who seek a more flexible path to a degree. The COVID-19 pandemic shifted the higher education landscape and every institution was thrust into offering fully online learning, even to first-year students, to keep the momentum of their students and their institutions going. While online education has its advantages, research shows that course completion and degree attainment are still areas of concern, even as enrollment in online programs increases. This session will explore common issues related to course and degree completion in online programs, and provide actionable strategies for advising professionals to better support the success of their online students. |
