Title: Hello, Can You Hear Me? Connecting Advisors on a Decentralized Campus
Lead Presenter: Ally Clement
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: 263, DECC
Abstract: When faced with the challenges a decentralized advising model comes with, Virginia Tech works to find ways to create a collaborative professional development model for all advisors. We recognize not all advisors get the same training, so in an effort to provide a foundation advisors can then supplement with specific college and/or departmental training we developed the Academic Advising Academy to better serve the needs of incoming, seasoned, professional, and faculty advisors.

This session will detail the progression and development of Virginia Tech's Academic Advising Academy, informational foundations it was built upon, the assessment methods used to create the current hybrid program that exists today, ways to create community buy-in among a decentralized advising model, and overall challenges associated with advisor professional development.
