Title: Try the Trend: Adding "Quick Coaching" Questions to Your Advising Toolbox
Lead Presenter: Nichole Mann
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Room: 206, DECC
Abstract: With structured academic coaching becoming an increasingly common student support strategy, many advisors have become curious about how it might fit in with their advising philosophy. Advisors frequently want to incorporate the tools of coaching into their practice, but struggle to figure out how to make time for these impactful conversations. Even when time is limited, advisors can take advantage of coaching strategies to encourage students to reach past the immediate situation and begin thinking critically about their goals. In this session, participants will learn more about what coaching is, how it's different from other student support approaches, and how to integrate coaching-style powerful questions into regular advising meetings.
