Title: A Team Approach to Dual Credit Academic Advising
Lead Presenter: Magen Besancon
Date: October 09, 2021    Time: 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Room: Jr. Ballroom B, DECC
Abstract: Increased access to dual credit programs has resulted in a surge of student participation and a rise in the amount of dual credit being earned. Consequently, students are entering four-year institutions with more dual credit hours and often encounter issues in the transfer and/or use of credit in their major. As dual credit enrollment continues to increase, a collaborative approach to advising these students should be utilized, one in which both the college advisor and secondary counselor play an active role. This session explores the impact advising has on dual credit course transfer and articulation of credits into a students major based on who provides dual credit advising. Participants will learn best practices tailored for this population of students and take away tangible ideas to improve their own dual credit advising practices and programs.
