Title: 'I Felt Empowered Using Servingness Practices': Towards a Servingness Advising Approach
Academic advising is a crucial component of the educational system, providing students with a structured and personalized approach to their academic journey. Advising guarantees students an opportunity to interact with knowledgeable and caring adults who have the tools to shape their academic experience. This presentation offers insights from a collaborative action research study examining the experiences of advisors within a holistic care advising model (HCAM) at a large, public, four-year Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). In this session, we will review the concept of servingness and its implications for academic advising, provide an overview of the servingness advising practices that emerged from the study, and discuss the strategies for implementing a servingness advising approach alongside the advisors that participated in the study. |
