Title: On the Merits of Neurodivergence: Supporting and Empowering Academic Advisors with ADHD
Lead Presenter: Kate Earnhardt
Date: October 28, 2025    Time: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Room: Roman Ballroom I, Promenade Level
Abstract: Academic advising is a demanding field; balancing caseloads, staying organized, and managing energy levels throughout the workday can be tough for any advisor, but can be especially daunting for those with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The role of advisors is crucial to student success, yet it can be challenging for individuals with ADHD, a disorder which impacts cognitive areas such as executive function, time management, and working memory-all critical skills for advisors. In this session, we will explore ways to leverage strengths while addressing challenges associated with ADHD in the workplace, as well as gain a deeper understanding of ADHD and offer practical tools to help advisors manage their responsibilities while maintaining their well-being. Attendees will leave with a toolkit of strategies for supporting themselves or colleagues with ADHD in advising roles.
