Abstract:

Research has shown that when students form a strong relationship with their advisor, they are more likely to be successful. In the Fall of 2014, Valencia College approved a three-year advising redesign, known as LifeMap 2.0. This presentation will focus on the process of reshaping Valencia College's advising model, the development of a proactive advising communication plan, and the integration of technology into advising practices to create timely, personal connections between students and advisors. Participants will be asked to engage in discussion, work in small teams, and brainstorm on what a proactive advising communication plan might look like for their institution. This presentation is appropriate for advisors and administrators from both two and four-year institutions. |
