Title: Students Who Self-Disclose Mental Health Issues During Advising Appointments
Lead Presenter: Rachel Hall
Date: October 02, 2018    Time: 8:45 am - 9:45 am
Room: N 129 A/B
Abstract: Colleges across the nation are experiencing an unprecedented number of students with mental health issues. A research study was conducted to determine if academic advisors at Radford University are experiencing mental health disclosures during advising appointments and to determine if faculty and professional advisors feel comfortable knowing what to do when a student self-discloses. This presentation will review the results of this research. At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees are asked to participate in a group discussion regarding student mental health disclosures and to share training ideas for helping advisors recognize when a student is in crisis. This presentation is appropriate for advisors and administrators of two and four year institutions.
