Lead Presenter: Steve Young
Date: October 03, 2018    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: N 124 A/B
Abstract:
College students experience a number of academic and personal setbacks throughout their undergraduate careers. This workshop will explore practices, strategies, and techniques advisors can utilize to help students develop resiliency and move forward from academic disappointments and personal failures. Participants will learn how to effectively guide students through the academic grieving process as well as how to encourage and facilitate the development of a growth mindset focusing on effort, improvement, learning, strength, and success. Advisors will engage in applied exercises to gain a first-hand understanding of how resilience can improve academic performance, decrease counseling center loads, and normalize being wrong and learning from one's mistakes.
