Abstract:

Most schools have an Advisement Center or localized advisement staff(s) with related student success responsibilities, and a completely different student affairs group that looks into the health and welfare of the students, from a housing or student life perspective. Advisors consider the student's well-being through a caring, academic lens, whereas the student affairs staff may make recommendations from their hearts and experience, perhaps unaware of policies. Over two years ago, Seaver College at Pepperdine University decided to integrate academic advising into an existing Student Care Team (SCT). This session will cover the integration, pitfalls and eventual positive outcome which ensures that the assistance and support our community provides to students has the whole student AND whole university in mind. |
