Title: Students as Narrators: Fostering Storytelling
Lead Presenter: Peter Hagen
Date: October 02, 2018    Time: 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Room: N 131 A
Abstract: "Narrative has been receiving attention lately as being of crucial importance to the practice of advising, calling attention to the ways that advisors use their power of story to advise students beyond the level of just giving information. But narrative is important on the other side of the advising interaction as well. Students who are more skilled at the construction of narratives are more likely to do advising well and thus are more likely to be advised well, that is, more likely to go beyond being the passive recipients of information. In this session we will look at strategies for advisors to help foster the art of storytelling in their advisees.
