Abstract:
|
Electronic portfolios are used in a variety of ways in advising. Carefully priming the prompts for the students' e-portfolio reflections is a particularly effective technique for helping students introduce themselves, their concerns, and their hopes to advisors, while also allowing advisors to begin to teach students how to adjust to and make the most of their institution or program. While the students are reflecting on and creating their story, they are learning about their new environment and how to become engaged in their own education. Well-designed prompts can guide students' reflections on their goals and progress while teaching them about their new institution or program. This presentation will outline techniques, as well as provide examples, of electronic portfolios' prompts which allow students to understand their changing story. |
