Abstract:
Every student who struggles in college has a story. As academic advisors, we have the role and the responsibility to help students unlock these stories and discover the keys to resolving failure. This session explores a research-based tool to help advisors to analyze student stories regarding learning failures. Participants will explore two student stories using this tool and practice identifying key elements of the stories that can lead to resolution of the failures. The session will then break into groups to identify potential interventions to help these students based on the findings of the group. Handouts will be provided to participants for use in future appointments with students who struggle with difficult learning experiences. This session is appropriate for all audiences.
