Abstract:
|
Academic advisors do not often realize the long term impact (i.e., 'their mark') that they leave on students except in rare instances where a student might thank them. This session reports on a study in which 37 graduate students discussed the pivotal relationships developed with their undergraduate advisors, as well as specific events, stories, and conversations that occurred between students and advisors. Advisors who clearly stood out were those who particularly exemplified the relational component of NACADA's core competencies. Students frequently credited these individuals with 'saving them' and being the reason they persisted through to graduation. We will share these students' powerful and inspirational stories. |
