Abstract:

"Advisors tend to enter the field with strong values regarding serving and helping others. These values motivate us to action, resulting in excellent services to students, support for colleagues and the accomplishment of institutional goals. Unfortunately, life tends to create obstacles that can obscure our focus. We can struggle to maintain our vision when there are more demands than there is time. Succeeding professionally, or in any important life role, involves identifying what is most important and somehow maintaining a focus on that vision despite obstacles. In this hands-on session participants will identify professional roles and responsibilities, meaningful personal values and develop a personal-professional mission statement to help maintain vision and focus on what matters most.
