Abstract:
|
In an effort to support students on academic probation, the Success Training for Academic Recovery (STAR) program has been implemented in the College of Social Science at Michigan State University since 2013. Program outcomes showed that students who completed the program components (some or all) were significantly more likely to come off probation than those who did not. To further examine the level of program satisfaction, 60 participants' written feedback forms were analyzed, and five major themes were identified from the data. The purpose of this presentation is to share the findings from students' feedback and analysis of the program participants' outcomes, describe effective strategies to advise students on academic probation, and also discuss ways to quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate effectiveness of student success programs. |
