Abstract:
|
'The Undecided College Student,' Virginia M. Gordon's work on career and major undecidedness in students, breaks down the undecided student category into manageable subcategories based on their level of undecidedness. Students who have selected a major often lie in the very decided to unstable decided fields while students who enter college undecided exist on a scale from chronically indecisive to tentatively undecided. While these stages assist advisors with their advising strategies, they only address part of student development. Chickering's Vectors of Identity discuss how students develop individually throughout their college career. These vectors correlate with a student's progression through their major and career decision process. This poster presentation will demonstrate how the levels of undecidedness and Chickering's Vectors work together and provide examples of how advisors can develop students using this information.
