Abstract:
|
"Multicultural centers often focus on relationship building, holistic student development, and helping students navigate what can be a difficult campus climate; these objectives may or may not always translate to a typical academic advising environment. If you are interested in integrating some of these approaches into your advising work with students, this session is for you! In this presentation, you'll hear from two former multicultural center staff who are both now academic advisors. We'll discuss how we've integrated these techniques into our new roles as well as some challenges we've experienced along the way. As learners ourselves, we're hoping that participants are able to contribute to the discussion with their own ideas and philosophies.
