Title: HOT TOPIC: Best Practices in Advising Distance and Online Learners
Lead Presenter: Tara Maroney

Room: N 128 A/B
Abstract: "Pursuing online degrees is becoming more popular in higher education. With the increase in online student learners, it is imperative that advisors understand and adapt to the unique needs of these students. Join several panelists from NACADA's Distance Advising for Online Education Advising Community to discuss and explore current topics and events that are impacting distance learners and our work with this population of students. Panelists come from both on-campus and online advising backgrounds and represent 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities. Topics of discussion will include examining differences in advising online and on-campus students, what is required to be a successful online advisor, and how we can best help our students succeed in an online learning environment. We will also encourage audience questions and discussion.
