Abstract: Connected classes present an opportunity to spend additional time with students and create relationships and activities that bridge the gap between residence hall experiences and the greater campus. The use of connected classes has demonstrated strong success in retaining students, however, establishing a connected class with a strong purpose continues to be a challenge. This presentation will lead a discussion on the pros & cons of utilizing connected classes to create community and connection to college curriculum and expectations. Particular attention will be paid to curriculum design and integration of advising practices to target at-risk populations.
