Title: Meeting the Needs of Military-Affiliated Students in the Online Environment
Lead Presenter: Grace Patterson
Date: October 02, 2018    Time: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: N 132 B/C
Abstract: How can we, as Academic Advisors, shift the expression of our unique art form of 'traditional' advising to meet the needs of non-traditional students? In particular, military-affiliated fully online learners face unique barriers to success. This population includes active duty military, veterans, dependents, and spouses. These students not only deal with the stressors associated with online learning, but often require assistance in navigating the university system for a variety of reasons. This session will address these barriers, discuss how to help support these students, and include a robust conversation about main campus services that can be effectively translated into the online environment, including veteran's services and disability accommodations.
