Title: A Tale of Two Transfers: Comparing the Stories of Traditional and Non-Traditional Transfer Students
Lead Presenter: Beth Truax Armstrong
Date: October 02, 2018    Time: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Room: N 224 A/B
Abstract: In 2015, 37% of college students transferred at least once within six years. However, little is known about the challenges and needs of non-traditional transfer students, such as adult learners, who represent a significant percentage of the transfer population. Understanding the needs and stories of non-traditional transfer students is crucial for effective transfer advising and intentional support services. This presentation will feature results from a 2018 campus needs assessment survey that identified specific differences between the needs of non-traditional transfer students and traditional transfer students. We will discuss specific issues and challenges that transfer students expressed and how to overcome these. Come and plot the direction of the tale of two transfers at your university.
