Abstract:

"What are two Big Ten institutions doing to provide smoother orientation and transition experiences for transfer students? How can transferring to a Big Ten institution present unique challenges and opportunities for students? Presenters from four units across two Big Ten institutions will lead a discussion on strategies and programs designed to support transfer students in their first year at their institutions. Topics covered will include program logistics, navigating campus structures, research and professional philosophy, institutional and unit context, and overviews of campus-wide and unit-specific initiatives. We will showcase transfer student stories who have benefitted from the programs that these two institutions incorporate into their first term experience. Participants will be welcome to share from their experiences and campus contexts.
