Abstract:
|
Do you ever feel Academic and Student Services speak past each other? Despite common goals of improving the student experience, both groups occasionally appear to be from different tribes. You are not alone, these challenges are real. During this session, you will be presented two different advising perspectives: a biology instructor/faculty advisor and a professional advisor. Learn how they intentionally assess conversations for effective communication and how this fosters innovative advising initiatives.
Learning objectives:
1. Understand different professional paradigms between faculty advisors and professional advisors
2. Learn pragmatic steps to developing trust between Academics and Student Services
3. Understand the need to be cognizant of how your well-intentioned feedback can be (mis)perceived
4. Learn best practices from intentional collaboration between teaching faculty and professional advisors |
