Abstract:
|
Many American universities are concerned justifiably about the intercultural development of their students as 'global citizens.' But what of their advisors and other university staff? This panel will argue in favor of deeper intercultural training of all staff who interact with students: the community they form shares the responsibility of fostering a holistic environment for intercultural advising, teaching, and learning. Panelists from two large public universities in the Northeast and Midwest will ask participants to assess their own intercultural development through the examination of identities and construction of life stories; describe the respective training efforts at their institutions; and facilitate discussion on ways in which all institutions may engage advisors, and subsequently their students, in their intercultural development. |
