Title: How Many Coaching Meetings Does It Take? Striving to Retain Students Who Want to Leave
Lead Presenter: Alicia Sepulveda
Date: October 01, 2018    Time: 7:15 am - 8:15 am
Room: N Ballroom 120 A-D
Abstract: In addition to professional and faculty advising, several institutions have implemented coaching positions and techniques as a strategic service to increase retention (Robinson, 2015). A true experimental study was conducted to examine what impact a brief coaching intervention has on first year students who want to leave the institution, and were identified using the Skyfactor Mapworks survey. This presentation will describe the research design, coaching intervention, findings, and focus on implications for advisors and coaches working with students who want to leave their institution. Findings will inform future research about coaching, in regards to retention, GPA, and engagement. Additionally, this presentation will serve as a foundation to facilitate dialogue regarding the effectiveness of coaching students who want to leave.
