Session #: 119(LEC)
Title: Flipping the Paradigm: Telling Student Stories Through Introspective Advising
Lead Presenter: Joel Parker
Date: October 02, 2018    Time: 8:45 am - 9:45 am
Room: N 122 A/B
Abstract: Even the most well prepared and gifted students are often confused about the purpose of their university experience. Academic advisors often feel that most of their time is taken up helping students to plan courses for the immediate future rather than helping students explore the bigger questions and make meaning of their experiences. In this session you will find out how we flipped the script, empowering students to take control of their own academic story and freed advisors to focus on helping students discover purpose and meaning in their education. You will learn how to use your university's Learning Management System to help students create a plan on their own and how to use exploratory questions to guide students on a journey of academic self-authorship.
