Abstract: In this session, Inclusive Practices and Practical Tips for Advising Students on the Autism Spectrum, advisors will come away with an understanding of what Autism Spectrum Disorder really means and gain a better understanding of some common experiences students on the spectrum commonly encounter in higher education. Clips will be shown from an award-winning short documentary created by the presenter that demonstrates the first-hand experience of one student at our institution, during and after degree completion. Demographic data, coverage of practical tips and advising best practices will also be presented, as well as opportunities for participants to share their experiences working with students on the spectrum. What can we as practitioners do to help individuals on the autism spectrum have better experiences in higher education and help them prepare for transitioning to the workforce?
