Abstract:
|
Many undergraduate programs are experiencing rapid growth and as a result, quality advising can be a significant challenge if staffing levels do not increase accordingly. With over 475 declared majors and growth expected to continue, the undergraduate Public Health Studies program at Johns Hopkins University has implemented a flipped advising approach to address the high volume of common questions about graduation requirements and procedural matters. By using online modules to alleviate such prescriptive advising, in-person advising meetings can then incorporate a more developmental approach. We will discuss how flipped advising allows students to take control of their academic planning in a self-directed manner, while allowing advisors to deliver more holistic advising that addresses student concerns on a more meaningful level. |
