Title: Operationalizing Engagement: Towards a Systematic Review of the Student Experience
Lead Presenter: Oscar van den Wijngaard
Date: October 03, 2018    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: N 229 A/B
Abstract: Student engagement has become a key concept in assessing the quality of education and within that academic advising. Student success and retention are known to be closely related to the degree of engagement students feel with their studies and their study environment. Maastricht University utilizes a simple model based on three distinct aspects of engagement - affective, behavioral and cognitive - to analyze the impact of the first year experience on students. From this workshop participants come away with an understanding of the key concepts within engagement literature and a hands-on analytical model they can use for their own review and assessment purposes. There will be ample time reserved during the workshop to experiment with the model under the guidance of the moderator.
