Title: Advising Towards Success: Fostering a Holistic Coaching Strategy for Readmitted Students
Lead Presenter: Christopher Richard
Date: October 01, 2018    Time: 7:15 am - 8:15 am
Room: N Ballroom 120 A-D
Abstract: How do you build the perfect student? What traits, skills, and proficiencies would they have?

Academic Advisors and Student Affairs professionals work with those from a variety of academic and lived experiences. Counseling students returning to an institution via its specific readmittance policy is of utmost importance to their future success.

This presentation proposes a holistic 'person first' policy that challenges students and professionals to analyze their sense of self-concept, academic history, and internal motivations upon return to the institution, with the goal of fostering a smooth, supportive, and inclusive transition. Utilizing the cycle of socialization model, this presentation will explore how the tool of transitional life coaching can potentially (re)build academic integrity within returning student populations.
