Abstract:
|
This session addresses the challenges for advising directors responsible for delivery of quality advising across campus when advising is performed predominantly by faculty advisors who do not report to the advising director. We will identify effective methods and proven programs for incentivizing faculty advisors to value advising as complementary to their mentoring and teaching. Inspired by Richard Light's belief that 'good advising may be the single most underestimated characteristic of a successful college experience,' advising administrators will learn about the successful creation and flowering of a faculty and staff advisors advisory group; proven collaboration with the campus faculty development center; and the many regular, multiple and meaningful connections the advising director enjoys with academic departments and faculty advisors. Join your colleagues in this interactive, discussion-based session. |
