Title: How to Make (the Right) Things Happen: An Operations Management Approach to Academic Advising
Lead Presenter: Ryan Scheckel
Date: October 03, 2018    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: N 230
Abstract: Do you ever find it hard to prioritize, strategize for, and assess the ways you work with and make a difference in the lives of your students? Over the last twenty-five years, advisors have been more and more frequently expected to serve with greater efficiencies and to do more with less. How can we be sure we are applying our knowledge, solving problems, and designing systems that deliver on these expectations to our fullest capabilities? Join us as we consider Beatriz Munoz-Seca's service problem-driven model (SPDM) approach, an operations management blueprint that promises clarity amid complexity for everyone, from the new advisor in an office of one to the seasoned campus-wide advising administrator.
