Abstract:
|
Students receive a deluge of academic advising information early in their academic careers and seldom retain that information until the moment they need it. Decentralized advising requires active training and networking to ensure that academic advising is consistent and effective from department to department, from advisor to advisor, and from chapter to chapter in a student's academic career. Faculty members need to be part of the team that ensures that students retain knowledge of resources and people who can help them with academic advising and career and professional planning. Faculty academic advisors provide ideal direct contact with students in their fields, and with appropriate resources and networking capabilities, provide quality academic and career advising. Low- and no-cost efforts to support faculty academic advising will be presented. |
